The ad, warning that children need to be protected from chatbots, is one of numerous campaigns The Alliance is launching in the weeks ahead
Today, on the heels of scandals involving Big Tech’s carelessness with AI chatbots, The Alliance for Secure AI launched a six-figure ad campaign warning Americans about the harmful effects of chatbots on children. The ad, which is the first of many The Alliance will release over the next few weeks, also directs Americans to sign its petition to protect kids and encourage safeguards on AI chatbots.
The ad follows multiple Big Tech controversies, including blowback against Meta’s policies allowing chatbots to have sensual and romantic conversations with children, and a pair of lawsuits by parents against OpenAI after their son took his own life following suggestions from ChatGPT.
“If there is one thing that all Americans can agree on it is that we must protect future generations from the harms of advanced AI. Big Tech has made it clear that it has little interest in keeping our country’s children safe from AI chatbots, and parents and concerned citizens are rightly calling for accountability,” said Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of the Alliance for Secure AI. “Some leaders in Washington have made it clear that this is an issue that must be addressed, and their constituents must continue encouraging them to make the necessary policy changes. We recommend that all Americans use their voices to call for protecting our children, before we reach the point of no return.”
The ad will run on MSNBC, CNN, Newsmax, and Fox News.
